I've noticed that in some of the more recent posts there are hints that Aston 2 is POSSIBLY close to completion. I know that the guys at HQ don't let much slip out, but I was just wondering if there was any talk of a tentative date. Spring, Summer,... heck, even a year date (i.e.- 2004, 2005). The anticipation is starting to get to me I'm starting to go crazy ... er. Sorry. Well, back to themeing (if that's a word )

Well.. it IS going to come out this year, that's for sure (unless something really horrible happens )
My guess is around summer. Allowing some time for beta as well.

I'm still about 85 away too... Good to hear that we can expect Aston around summer, though I'd rather hear a bit more about it from the authors... Is there any chance beta testing can also be done by the users? Or by a small group of users?
Greetings,
Michael

Actually my summer guess is based upon PCs previous odds. 50-1 he said for Spring, so I'm guessing summer would be more reasonable. It will be a closed beta I believe.

All Aston betas are closed, and I have reason to believe this one will be very closely guarded. The potential for complete failure in the early stages is quite high, as is the potential for complete confusion with "current versions". To explain: Gladiator Software use a core group of beta testers that liaise very closely with the developers, constantly breaking and fixing the beta's until we find nothing to complain about. The modest size of the testers means that each of us gets a good chance at grabbing the attention of the developers when a problems shows it's head.
Just to give you all green eyes, I was able to use a pre-alpha version of the A2 core last year to test a 1.9.0 bug. However, it wasn't really anything back then. With the final beta cycles of a new product coming to a close quite soon, I think we can expect a flurry of activity on A2 soon, and please rest assured, we will keep you all as informed as we are allowed.
Regards,

I was just using the core, so there really isn't an answer to your question. As for current Alpha's etc, the person who might better answer that MIGHT be Smanic. I haven't seen a current copy recently.

I can wait (I kind of have to, don't I ). Well, I'd rather have a closed beta anyway. Last time I was part of an open beta test, there were too many people that couldn't tell the difference between a real bug and operator error. I could just deal with a couple of screen shots as it comes closer to launch . The only thing that I would like to see in the new version is total desktop functionally for all the plugins (i.e.- start button anks, taskbar animations, etc.).
Also, I know that A2 won't need it b/c of the awesome programmers we have here ; but since A2 is completely plug-in based, will it support other shell plug-ins? (i.e.- Aston's ability to use OLD Litestep wharf plugs)

To be honest, I don't believe it will. I can always ask though next time I see Oleg.
