I do not like there being no threads for the AltDesk skin section, so I am creating one to fill that void for now.

I suppose that there isn't much recent activity in this section since skinning for AltDesk has reached a peak - not much of the other side of the mountain, from as far as we non-privileged users.

I, for one, am going to make my current AltDesk quest known here. I am interested in saving desktop real-estate. To me, the systray and AltDesk both serve some of the same functions - and therefor I think that they could be combined - in other words, delete the current systray plug-in and only use AltDesk. Before I can remove the systray, I would need to be able to get AltDesk into my taskbar (a personal preference, since I find it floating around to be of a nuisance).

I have seen screenshots of SkyWire's desktop where it seems like he has done something like this. I am busy most of the remainder of this week, but hopefully I will looking into SkyWire's implementation and get my Aston to do the same. If anybody would like to lay out some information in the mean time, I would be more than pleased!

Also, second to moving AltDesk into the taskbar, some of the functionality of the systray would still be missed if removed (such as the Aston icon, AltDesk icon, my LAN icon, etc, etc). If Gladiators Software finds the time to put some more work into AltDesk, I ask that they try to extend AltDesk into a complete systray option. Just my quarter worth.

well you could try making an aston desktop that has a bar down the bottom of the WP with sticky buttons on it. then leave a gap at the end and put in an altdesk where the systray should be. you could probably easily make a skin for altdesk to do this. you would not be able to have a start menu though, but you could just use side panels and top panel Smile

i dunno if this will work for you, but i think i will! im glad i thought of it Very Happy ive just gotta figure out how to skin alt desk first Razz

*leaves to go find out how to skin altdesk*

Yeah, please keep me informed of your progress. My school work keeps me too busy so I haven't been able to experiment with methods of using AltDesk as a systray. One problem, is of course, AltDesk in its current form can't completey replace the systray in the sense that AltDesk doesn't show all of the icon in the systray, it only shows ones that have a taskbar entry..

I don't use a start button anyway so that wouldn't be a problem. If I want my Main Menu, I just push the Windows key on my kb.

Again, if you come up with any good results, let me know, as I will the same.
