Hi SebiVistaBlue! I dunno... start disabling plugins? If that isn't doing anything, stop software running in the System Tray. I would try safe mode as well and see if that works. And if you have System Restore enabled, I would save a set point before doing anything. And if you do use it, you might try jumping back to an earlier time. But save one first before going backwards.

Thats the weird thing.

I can use the rightclick on working place -> goto "search"
then the explorer opens and i'm able to switch at the button line from search to folder view.

but even when i click on the working place icon the explorer doesn't start.
I've already checked that he is linked in the Aston options as file explorer.

totally strange..... Shocked

I HAVE THE SOLUTION!

i had this problem too. what you have to do is this:

Press CTR+ALT+DEL. If you're running Vista, hit "Start Task Manager."

When Task Manager starts, select the "Applications" tab.

Press "New Task..."

Type "Explorer.exe" and press OK.

When the Explorer window opens, go to your Aston folder (most likely under "Program Files" in your hard disk or where ever you installed it during the installation.)

Open the "ShellSwp" application.

Select "Explorer" and press Next.

Select "All Users" and press Next.

Select "Restore colors, cursors, icons etc." and press Finish.

Everything will come back. I don't plan on using Aston due to this little bug. I suggest uninstalling it. But hey, that's just me.

Peace,

Sev

I'm sorry to hear that you were having problems with Aston and decided to immediately uninstall it rather than get help from support or the forums, MC SE7EN.

Unfortunately though, that is not the solution to SebiVistaBlue's problem.

Hi SebiVistaBlue,
Keep an eye on your task viewer if it strikes again (it will believe me on this). Its like cyatica, it comes back when you think all is well.

When I send in to the Aston Team I always include the info from Task Viewer and Dr.Watson , if they catch it. I also capture the screen as well (not necessary but useful), this makes for easier Troubleshooting as they can compare the crash logs.
Also i include my System Info and what was running at the time

This is an IE7, normally ntdll.dll issue , I have 1 out of the machines I have that does this. It just so happens it my main PC.
heres my last crash log:
The application, C:\PROGRA~1\Aston\aston.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 02/19/2008 @ 08:08:00.687 The exception generated was c0000008 at address 7C96478E (ntdll!RtlRaiseStatus)

Google the above ntdll.dll error to see it not only happens with Aston.

Theres a theory: (unproven as yet)
Add IE to D.E.P (system properties>Advanced>Settings>Data Ex.... Pro....) second tick box then add IE7. It will stop this ntdll.dll error, I'm trying out this theory, so far so good.

ok, this is my second, and final post..lol...i reinstalled and found that if you hit shell switcher in the shellswitch.exe program, it crashes like in the first post..but if you hit "aston" on shellswitch.exe, it works fine..however, i really just didnt like aston that much, so i uninstalled it again Wink ...lol..

hardly noticed it cos I use FreeCommander most of the time..

Please try the following: open Shell Swapper - change Aston DDE setup (try all the possible variants) box. Log off.
