Hi everyone. I'm new. Just started playing with Aston today and I'm having a blast, but I do have one issue. How do I make what I do while in the Aston Shell reflect what I see when I go back to the Explorer desktop (and the same for the other way around)?
I did my searching but after some time I gave up. I did find some reference to AveDesk but doesn't apply to my issue. I can't find a setting anywhere that allows me to sync up both desktops.
I appreciate the help!

Your Explorer desktop and Aston desktop are completely different. The Explorer desktop is a folder on your computer where you can store things (and it's really bad practice actually). The Aston desktop is just elements on a window that link to things on your computer, they're not actually files.
Your best bet is to unlearn what you have learned from the Explorer desktop.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I will just have to get used to the differences. I'm learning ways around it by using my third party file managers to view the Windows desktop. I need to see it when I download anything so I can install it (or whatever).
Thanks again for the help.

Welcome to the forums crabdance! Say, did you notice you can see your Explorer Desktop icons under Start -> Desktop Icons?

Thanks for the welcome! I looked under Start->desktop Icons, and I didn't see anything like that, but I did find a way around it. I booted back over into plain windows and made a link to my desktop in favorites and now when I open "favorites" on the start menu, it opens up a folder with my desktop in it. That's all I needed. Just to have access.
I tried making an "element" on the Aston desktop (if you call it that) and I could never get it to work. Plus, I could never get the element to have an icon even though I selected an icon for every section.... I'll get it eventually. I'm still new at this. If you don't mind telling me, how DO you make a folder element on the Aston desktop?
thanks for everything.

That is weird! Here is what a stock system should look like. And there are two places where you should see the desktop icons in red below.
The way you did it should be okay. But that is weird you don't see it.

Here is what it should look like and show you how to recreate it. Hope it helps!

Sorry man... guess I have gone blind. I see them now. I could have saved myself some work, but the way I did it works good too.
Hey, have another question for you. On the side menus that pop out when you mouse over... what do you do with one that is a folder? I put a working path to a folder in it but nothing happens when I click the button.
thanks again

Don't feel bad... I think a lot of us didn't know it was there at first either. Maybe there are even some who has used Aston for years and still don't know it was there.

I am not totally sure I know what you are talking about. But I am guessing that you have the "Object Type" set wrong. Try setting it as "Application or document" even though it is a folder. Hope this helps.

thanks for being understanding. I can't believe that I didn't see it.
What I'm talking about for the folders is on the left toolbar (the hide away one). The part where you define whether it's a folder or an application is grayed out and you cannot change it. You can change everything else, but not that. It's always going to be a "folder" type. (NOTE: this folder element is already there and is there by default)
So my question is still, how do you make a folder type work? I've tried to put folder paths in the "working directory" path section but nothing seems to work. I will keep working on it though.
I do appreciate your help. If you get tired of trying to answer my questions, just take a break for a while and I will understand. I'm not expecting you to teach me everything. I hope you don't mind me asking these questions.
As always, thanks again.

Okay, they are not folders like you know folders as. They are folders for elements. The easiest way to edit the left or right toolbar is through Aston Options. Right click on the desktop and select it from the menu. It should look like this. And notice everything to the right of the folder is actually inside of the folder so to speak. As you can't see anything inside of it until you click on it.

If you look at that picture above, they are all element folders except the very top and bottom one.

Ok, I think I understand now. It's like a folder tree with the apps inside it.
Thanks for the explanation. I'm learning
I will shut up for a while and try do do more searching on the forum. My next task is trying to make the icons on the taskbar closer together.
have a great one!

I don't think you will get anywhere with that one. As Aston automatically adjust the size on the available space it is given. I actually like this behavior myself. Although if you are talking about the icon offset, this is adjustable under Aston Options under Taskbar.
