I cannot run the File Search function in Aston Shell v.1.9.6. The system always prompts me an error message and request to report the error to Microsoft. My system is running Window XP Home Edition on a Althon 64 machine.
To verify the problem, I also run the Aston in Window 2000 on the same machine. No problem is found with the File Search.
Can any one tell me what has happen to my Window XP?

Are you running the 64 bit version of Windows XP?

Sorry, I do not know whether my Window XP is 32-bit or 64-bit. This is because I bought a pre-installed PC. By the way, would you mind teling me how to check my Window XP is 64-bit or 32-bit?
Thank you!

Hi kinkin! Go to the Control Panel and click on System.

Thank you for your advice!
Just check it. The System Type item is x86-based PC. I think it may be 32-bit OS. If you need any further information for fixing my "Serach" problem, please feel free to voice out.
Thanks again for your helps

Does search still work when you go back to Explorer as your shell? You might want to send email to "support AT astonshell.com" and see what they say.
In the mean time, you might want to check this out. It is so fast and it is free too.

"File Search" works fine when I switch back to Explorer. It just prompts error while running under Aston mode. By the way, thank you very much for your recommended S/W!

I have the exact same problem. And it just started during the last week or so. Before that I've never ever had any problems with this issue.
I have been using Win XP sp3 (x84) on a Pentium 4 machine for over a year since my last Windows re-install and I haven't had a single problem with it before. Now it was starting to seem that the only way I would be able to use search was either giving up Aston and changing back to Explorer, or using some third party tool. Searching works fine in Explorer from start menu, WIN+F hotkey and even just by clicking a folder with the second mouse button and just simply selecting search.
If I'm using Aston on the other hand, all the other regular hotkey-shortcuts work perfectly (WIN+E, WIN+D, etc.) It's only the search function that seemed to have stopped working with Aston. Search for files and folders" just won't start... nor does it give me any type of error either - absolutely nothing happens.
Then after couple of hours of getting frustrated I thought I might as well try the one last thing that came to my mind. I booted back to Aston, opened up My Computer and added that search button on the top row of explorer next to all the other back/forward icons... and that did it. I could use search again.
I'm really puzzled by this weird problem, if anyone figures out what causes this, (or even better, how to fix this) please, let me know as well.
