I notice that every theme I've used (all of them, I think) uses this... smooth sliding for everything that pops up. Menus always slide into view, light-ups on panels always slide to the next one on things such as the system tray. It's getting to be pretty generic. Is there a way to stop that sliding?

I support that. 
Additionally would be cool to have like several menu appearance effects to choose from or none.

Could you probably provide a screenshot?

I don't think screenshots are needed it just the menus appearing effects. It is the way menus are displayed and menu transitions. But maybe I can find something on youtube....I'll try.
