Hi,

I have been a (very satisfied) user of Altdesk for years now. With the latest version of Cygwin there is a slight problem with multiple xterms on different desktops. When switching desktop only the active xterm on that desktop gets updated; the inactive ones still show the content of the desktop I was coming from. Only after I click in an inactive window it shows its actual content. Does anyone know a solution for this?

Do you mean the previews or the desktop cells? In case that's previews you mean, unfortunately there is no way to alter this behavior, since that's only the screenshots that are taken on the active desktop and they cannot be updated while the desktop stays inactive.

No, I mean the content of the desktop itself. Every desktop has a few Xterm windows but only the active xterm in a new desktop gets updated. The other ones show the content of the previous desktop, until they are made active by clicking in them

Shocked
If it's not preview that you mean, how can see what is updated/not updated on the inactive Destop?

Let's say you have 1-xterm on the first deskop and 2-xterm on the second desktop. You're working on the first desktop, and 1-xterm is updated when you do something in it. What is expected to happen on desktop 2 and how you should know it?

Or am I missing the point again? Sad

No, there are several Xterm windows on each desktop. Let's say on Desktop 1 there are Xterm_1 and Xterm_2, and on Desktop 2 Xterm_3 and Xterm_4. On Desktop 1 Xterm_1 is active and on Desktop 2 Xterm_3 is active. When I switch from Desktop 1 to Desktop 2, Xterm_3 gets refreshed, but Xterm 4 shows whatever is displayed on Desktop 1 at that location. Only when I click in Xterm 4, its content is refreshed.

BTW: this could be a problem with Cygwin X. When I do the same with Command Prompt windows, everything works OK

I'm glad to have found a solution for this irritating problem. Instead of using the "multiwindow" window manager, I installed the "xwinwm". Now all windows are updated when I switch desktops.

BTW: This was certainly *not* an Altdesk bug, but a Cygwin-X one!

Thanks,

Jan

Thanks, lins054 (Jan), for clearing that up for us. Thanks for posting your solution. Mr. Green
